Up for sale is this great looking and awesome running 1979 Camaro Z28 hardtop coupe. Finished in Bright Blue Metallic and Blue Interior. This car was the fear of every teenage girl's parent and a popular mode of transport for newlyweds and eloping runaways across the nation. This is a rock solid 83,000 mile rust free Texas car that received a high quality respray, all new weather stripping and general refresh several years ago. At the same time some very conservative but tasty mechanical modifications were made to improve the performance significantly over the original spec car. This car rolled off the factory floor with a mere 175 horsepower coming from its small block V8 engine. But thanks to a rebuild the original engine was transformed to run more like a '71 Z28 350 than the '79 5.7 Litre that it is. A mild cam, performance intake, Headman long tube headers and a 3" stainless steel exhaust run through a pair of Flowmaster mufflers that combine to restore the muscle and sound lost to these late '70's pony cars. It sports its original Rochester 4-barrel carburetor, air cleaner and valve covers to keep that stock appearance. But don't be fooled, this car romps. And with its original gearbox swapped with a Tremec 5-Speed it retains that "blast to drive" aspect of the original close ratio Muncie 4-Speed and adds that smooth as silk 5th gear for cruising 80 mph at 2500 rpm. Car starts easy and idles with a nice lope. This Z28 accelerates, steers and brakes without pulling one way or the other. Handling is enhanced by the addition of QA1 front coil over suspension. Original Turbine style wheels are in perfect condition. Tires are barely used BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. The interior looks fantastic and has an upgraded Pioneer head unit with all the modern features connected through a JBL (subwoofer ready) amp to great sounding Alpine speakers front and rear. All of the lights and gauges work as they should with the exception of the clock, which like this iconic Camaro Z28, is frozen in time. Manual windows are properly aligned and roll up and down with ease. An aftermarket alarm controlling the door locks and trunk release is fully functional. This is a Factory AC car but the compressor was removed when the headers were installed. All of the other components are installed awaiting re-installation of the compressor. The fan, vent, heat and defrost all work as intended. This car has been driven and is not without a few minor garage scuffs and scratches but there are no dents or dings anywhere on the car. The ground effects are original and free of damage. Likewise the Z28 graphics are in excellent condition. Recent seal service, valve cover gaskets and a rebuilt steering box eliminated what few drips this car had. A complete tune up including a new distributor, wires and plugs, carb cleaning and a complete rear brake job make this car ready to go for its new owner. This car looks fantastic and makes no excuses at any local or regional car show. When a fifty something year old woman in her Sunday best smiles and says "bad ass car" without totally embarrassing her teenager you know you have a crowd pleaser! There was no shortage of these later Gen 2 "bumper cover" Camaros produced, many of which were abused, hacked up or rusted into oblivion. Really good ones like this are becoming scarce and have begun to appreciate in value over the last few years with very top cars now pushing past $30k. The beauty of owning these cars is that they can be driven and enjoyed and so long as they are taken care of, will never lose value. This car is located in Rowlett, Texas.
